    Hired Attorney 2024-2026
When my ex-wife filed for divorce, I hired Daniel and Taylor law firm and paid retainer fees. The firm assigned attorney Eugenia to my case. She worked on my case for a while and left the firm without proper communication to me. She transferred my case to Jeffrey and he was not nice from the beginning. She told him to treat me not nice at all. Even though he began to work on the case, he didn’t bother to look at what she had already done and started my case from the scratch. That cost me so much time and attorney fees. He asked me to submit discovery from 2019 up to 2025. He is the worst attorney in the area. He dropped my case after nine months and I had to hire another attorney, which was the most incompetent and dishonest attorney. His name is Matthew and works at the same place with Jeffrey. Jeffrey treats his clients badly and unpredictably. Divorce carries emotional trauma and during this time, people need less stress not more. This attorney had caused me so much emotional turmoil. He put me indebted positions. I paid 60000 dollars and ended up losing my house, paying attorneys fees for ex-wife and alimony. I blame it on this attorney for he had not provided me with guidance and sound advice. I will inform the Hispanic community and African community not to approach him and will never recommend him to anyone.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
