Hired Attorney 2025-2026Hiring LaJuana was the worst decision I have ever made. She is the kind of attorney who takes your money and refuses to work for it. She dismissed valid legal defenses because pursuing them required effort, and she claimed the prosecutor was just "a jerk" to excuse her own lack of leverage. Her behavior was dehumanizing. When I stood before her, terrified for my professional license, she laughed at me. When I confronted her, she tried to gaslight me by claiming it was a "smile with a pause". She treated my life and my license like a joke. Legally, her work was worthless. She filed a Pre-Trial Diversion motion she knew was doomed to fail and a "speaking demurrer" that served no purpose other than to make her look busy. She even complained about "waiting in long lines" at the courthouse, acting as if the basic requirements of her profession were an undue burden. Her billing practices are predatory. She admitted in writing that she "wasn't confident" in the paperwork she filed, yet she billed me for it anyway. She even billed me for work performed the day after I explicitly told her to stop negotiating. I was safer representing myself than I was with her. Do not let this woman near your case.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
