Hired Law firm 2024-2025I retained attorney Jeremy Penland and paid his fees in full with the expectation of competent legal representation during a critical custody matter. Unfortunately, my experience fell far short of that standard. Communication was inconsistent, and I often struggled to receive timely responses. I was also given advice that resulted in legal complications, including a finding of contempt. On the day of a scheduled hearing, Mr. Penland stated that he was unable to represent me due to circuit court obligations. However, my understanding is that those proceedings had concluded prior to my hearing. He also claimed that I had an outstanding balance, despite my account having been paid in full weeks earlier. He then withdrew from representing me during the hearing, leaving me without legal counsel at a critical moment. As a result, I did not receive proper guidance regarding my legal rights, and important matters—such as court-ordered therapy—were not properly followed through or enforced. This had a profound impact on my family during an already difficult time. Tragically, two months later, my son passed away. Given the seriousness of the case and the outcome, I do not believe I received the level of representation I paid for or reasonably expected. I strongly encourage others to carefully consider these factors when seeking legal representation.
