Overview
J. Ross Hamrick is an associate at Cox Byington Twyman LLP, where he is a member of the firm's litigation practice. Mr. Hamrick was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 2018. He is admitted to practice in Georgia's trial courts, the Court of Appeals of Georgia, the Supreme Court of Georgia, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. Before joining the firm, Mr. Hamrick was an Assistant Public Defender for the Rome Circuit Public Defendant's Office. There, he gained extensive experience handling misdemeanor and felony trials, as well as appeals. Mr. Hamrick's practice primarily focuses on criminal defense and appellate matters. He has tried many criminal cases in state courts, as well as litigated complex pretrial and posttrial motions. In addition to his trial-court experience, he is frequently arguing cases before Georgia's appellate courts, where he has secured reversals at the Court of Appeals of Georgia and the Supreme Court of Georgia.
In 2022, Mr. Hamrick served as co-counsel for Cain Joshua Storey, a wrongfully convicted Rome native and subject of the Proof Crime Podcast. He helped secure Mr. Storey's release after decades in prison. Mr. Hamrick's writing has appeared in the Memphis Law Review and Daniel's Georgia Criminal Trial Practice Forms.
