Attorney Information

Overview

Steven comes to MWSS with a wide range of experience in the legal profession, having been a government lawyer, a partner in a small law firm, the owner of his own law practice, and an integral part of a large law firm. He started his legal career in the public sector as a Deputy District Attorney in Baker County, Oregon, where he successfully prosecuted dozens of cases in trials before judges and juries. This experience gave him the skills and confidence to move to Boise and enter the private practice of law, beginning with a partnership in a small law firm, practicing personal injury, criminal defense, and family law. Thereafter, he operated his own solo practice for a number of years, extending his experience both as a practicing attorney and litigator and as an entrepreneur. He went on to lead the litigation efforts of a multi-state law firm in Idaho, practicing personal injury law.

During his legal career, Steven has consistently provided reliable and practical legal counsel, as well as diligent, well-prepared, and effective advocacy, for a variety of individuals and small businesses throughout Idaho and Oregon. He has appeared before trial courts throughout Idaho and Oregon, mediated and arbitrated numerous cases, and argued before the Idaho Court of Appeals and Idaho Supreme Court. His diverse work experience makes him an effective and versatile attorney. Steven’s colleagues, including his opponents, know him as pleasant, level-headed, pragmatic, candid, trustworthy, and zealous. He strives for excellence and progress in all that he does.

Steven is from Oregon but has lived in the Boise/Meridian area since 2008. Outside of work, Steven enjoys serving, including in church assignments; spending time with his wife, children and extended family; learning and teaching; being creative; woodworking; cooking; and traveling.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
