Chester Personal Injury Law Firm
Overview
Biography
Fisher & Kerkhover is composed of well-rounded attorneys who do trial work as well as transactional work. We also handle civil litigation and appeals in a wide variety of areas. In addition, our firm is technologically oriented, utilizing the Internet to complement our services. We correspond by email with other lawyers and access various CD-ROMs and software programs to provide our clients with the best possible representation.
BACKGROUND
Our firm was founded in 1948 by Paul Nehrt. He began his practice in the Herschbach Building at the corner of Swanwick and West Holmes in Chester, Illinois. Mr. Nehrts reputation for skilled legal work and affordable representation of clients grew, as did the size of the firm. The firm currently consists of two partners, one associate, one receptionist, two full-time secretaries.
Fisher and Kerkhover Law Offices has achieved the highest rating awarded to law firms by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. Part of the reason for this is that, besides being technologically knowledgeable, our attorneys regularly attend continuing legal education seminars to keep abreast of the ever changing legal world. In addition, brainstorming sessions among the lawyers are often held in order to give our clients the most effective legal representation available.
PRACTICE AREAS
As a full-service law firm, we advise and represent clients in the areas of estate planning and probate, workers compensation, personal injury, real estate, banking, municipal law, corporate law, commercial, school law, family law and many others.
COMMITMENT TO CLIENTS AND THE COMMUNITY
Because we are a small firm, we know our clients, work well with them and are accountable to them. We receive referrals from clients, their friends, co-workers, and other law firms. In addition, our clients tell us that they value us as attorneys, counselors, negotiators and litigators. Likewise, we value our clients, and are always aware that it is they who employ us. We practice law professionally, with the careful judgment and common sense that comes from experience, and with a vigor which comes from a commitment to helping our clients and the surrounding community in which we live.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
