DO NOT USE FOR ARBITRATION. She is the perfect example of why arbitration is patently unfair to consumers. First, she obviously has zero understanding of technology. Every call was extremely poor quality, without explanation. She is also unprofessional, and likely having ex parte communications with the opposing parties. She sent a letter saying the award was ready but the other side needed to pay before we could see it (an obvious indicator that she was ruling against the consumer). While awaiting payment, a prior scheduled hearing was supposed to take place. While Plaintiff's counsel was on the call, curiously neither Ms. Bush nor the defense appeared for the call. If it was cancelled, she only told the other side. When the order ultimately issued, her lack of understanding of the law became apparent. The most basic principle of federal law is that it preempts state law. Not in front of fraud arbitrator Bush. She began the analysis of the FEDERAL CLAIM by analyzing state law. Then using state law, drew the conclusion that it was the equivalent under federal law (despite a different analysis and her complete and utter failure to perform such analysis). Maybe because she is from Illinois she thinks that law preempts federal law. But I wouldn't take the risk in another state. But if you're a business going against a consumer, you probably want to choose her because you will have little doubt this fraudster will find against the consumer.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
