Verified ClientHired Attorney 2017-2020Amazing attorney. Mr. Helt and his staff were great to work with and handled my case before the Chicago Immigration Court with care and attention. He always took time to answer my telephone calls and my emails and he always explained things about my case that gave me comfort and he helped me understood the issues in my removal case. He prepared me very well for my final hearing and I received my green card before the Judge. He also is assisting my wife for her citizenship and my cousin in Memphis with his court case. This is the lawyer you need if you have a serious situation with immigration.

Hired Attorney 2022-2023The short version: Mr. Helt helps those who feel there is no hope. He is a top-tier lawyer who knows everything immigration related. If you are reading this, save yourself the time researching other prospective lawyers and book an appointment with him! My detailed review: Navigating the intricacies of the immigration system, especially with a complicated case such as mine, can feel daunting and hopeless. However, Mr. Helt has proven to be a beacon of hope and expertise for those feeling lost. I came to Mr. Helt with a US citizenship case that had been deemed “too complex” by several prominent attorneys. Yet, during our initial interview, he exuded confidence, assuring me that together we would secure my citizenship. Our meeting went over the allotted time but that was never an issue for him. He answered all of my father and I’s questions. He considered many factors that other lawyers had failed to consider. He took his time to break down all the complex legal jargon into words that my father and I could understand. I walked out of the meeting knowing I would like to retain his services. True to his word, he championed my case with unmatched proficiency and now I am a US Citizen! What distinguishes Mr. Helt isn’t just his profound knowledge of the law but he is also a master communicator, ensuring his clients are well-informed at every step. His professionalism is impeccable, always keeping lines of communication open and being timely in his responses. Perhaps one of his most commendable qualities is his quick-wittedness. During our interview, he demonstrated an ability to think on his feet, adeptly advising on how to adjust answers on the fly. His preparation methods were very thorough, and ensured that I walk into interviews feeling confident and well-equipped. To anyone feeling hopeless about their complicated legal case or to those who have been turned away elsewhere: Mr. Helt is your solution. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He's more than just a lawyer, he's a top-tier advocate who genuinely cares about the well-being of his clients. Jeff Bezos, the founder of e-commerce powerhouse Amazon, has said that he makes decisions that will minimize regrets, regardless of the outcome. I personally think that is a great rule-of-thumb to live life by. We can’t always control what will happen, but there is comfort to be found in knowing we did everything we could. No matter what happens with your case, you will not regret retaining Mr. Helt’s services.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
