Hired Attorney 2025-2026Divorce is a very stressful situation to come to find out (going through it the first time) and you would think hiring an attorney to represent you would come with knowledge and professionalism. Shame on me for trusting this system, and now I understand how a bad attorney can ruin any chance of hope. I have been in the process of getting divorced since Jan 16, 2025 and hired Berger Schatz, Kurt Kwidzinski to represent me in this matter. Hiring Berger Schatz has produced tremendous results within the the 1+ year of time. 1. Two order of protections from my ex wife all based on hearsay (Ex Wife dropped them right before court hearing not due to Kurt outstanding work) 2. Court - Order Breathalyzer - As a person with no alcoholic related incidents - Kurt secured this for me 3. 25+ Subpoenas from Ex Wife - out of the 25+ subpoenas the only documents that turned up were the ones I disclosed (Ex -Wife stating Berger Schatz did not turn them over) 4. Anger Management Course -- as a person with no domestic related insides - Kurt secured this for me 5. Only having the opportunity to see my kids for two hours a week along with only putting my kids to bed twice in the given time since our divorce. 6. Financial Settlement that does not make any sense to me (above my pay grade) 7. My ex wife being able to take my children out of the state without my permission during my parenting time 8. Wife has full control of residence / cars / personal belongings / and most important all the time with my children with us still not being close to the finish line - I could continue with the tremendous white glove service they provide but don't want to be a keyboard hero. All to say - this type of service for a price tag of $50,000 + Berger Schatz is your law firm.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
