Chicago Medical Malpractice Lawyer

Overview

Francis P. (Frank) Morrissey is a trial lawyer with a national reputation as a tenacious and highly successful personal injury and medical malpractice attorney. He has won multimillion dollar awards for his clients and his firm has the distinction of winning the largest reported personal injury settlement of a contested liability case in Illinois history securing $90 Million in 2021 for an individual who was involved in a workplace accident.

Not intimidated by deep pocket defendants, Frank has taken on such formidable foes as pharma giant Johnson & Johnson, and locally, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Rush University medical Center, Loyola University Medical Center, Advocate Health and Hospitals, Lurie Children's Hospital and Presence Health and Hospitals. From Florida to New York to Pennsylvania and back to Chicago, Frank has demonstrated a sophisticated knowledge of case law and won the respect of local judges and opposition attorneys alike as a stalwart litigator for his clients.

With his Irish wit and down-to-earth manner, Frank has charmed numerous juries in high-stakes lawsuits. Recently achieving a $9.7 million verdict in federal court involving complications from gastric bypass weight loss surgery, Frank Morrissey also settled birth injury cases for $10.9 million and $9.4 million.

First selected by his professional peers as an Illinois Super Lawyer in 2005, Frank has been so chosen every year since 2009. His selection as an Illinois Leading Lawyer reflects his ranking among the top five percent of all personal injury lawyers in Illinois.

Such honors demonstrate the pattern he established early in his career. As a young lawyer in 2003, he was named one of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin's "40 Under 40" Illinois attorneys under the age of 40 whose early success portended future courtroom stardom.

As a result of his extensive experience in medical malpractice cases, Frank has been chosen to be a contributing author to Chapter 10 ("Fact Discovery"), published in Medical Malpractice 2011 Edition and 2013 and 2018 Supplements produced by the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE®). Frank is also the Past President of the prestigious Illinois Society of Trial Lawyers, a member of the American Board of Trial Lawyers, and the Past President of the Celtic Lawyers Association.

4.5 out of 5 stars

Frank at Morrissey Legal Group did an amazing job for my family. Particularly my daughter, who suffered a brain injury during birth that resulted in her having spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy. When I first met with Frank I was pleasantly surprised when he spoke to me so compassionately and put me at ease. He guided us through the whole process as if we were visiting with a trusted friend. And now, five years after the case came to a close, he is still in contact with us. I never realized, I wasn't just acquiring an experienced attorney, but also a friend.

There are really no words to describe the Commitment to their clients and the pursuit of justice that drives Frank and what he does, he manages to blend caring, honesty, excellence, thoroughness, communication and understanding of where the client is coming from at every stage of a case. His best assets are simple his precision in seeing and handling every detail, His determination to get his client compensated in the best way possible for what they have endured and most importantly his ability to be truly sensitive and genuine and his understanding and what you have gone through. I felt completely heard, consulted, and informed about every step I needed to be involved in and felt comfortable with every step they move forward without needing my input. I couldn’t have asked for a better scenario for having to deal with this very difficult situation in my life. The entire team at this law firm was amazing Frank takes each case and attacks it as if he experienced it it himself.

5.0 out of 5 stars

If there was an option to award 6 stars, this firm would have received them. Frank Morrissey and Patrick Anderson have the determination and persistence that rendered a compelling argument to an impartial jury, which resulted in an indisputable verdict in my favor. Every aspect of the case was examined in minute detail and was substantiated by expert witness testimony from a team of specialists specifically selected for their expertise in a complicated medical malpractice filing. The defense team, assembled from a major hospital, attempted, unsuccessfully, to dispute every argument, all of which were immediately countered with case presidence, supporting evidence, and unquestionable data. Morrissey Legal Group provides unrivaled excellence for their clients.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
