Hired Law firm 2024-2025This was a bad experience from start to finish. She billed us for a consultation without telling us or giving us a rate first. She promised to get us through the refiling our case with an excessive $20k retainer, but came nowhere close. She went missing for 2 months at a time, and apparently billed US to refresh her memory each time. She billed us for several overwritten multiple paragraph email responses to very basic questions. We didn't even received a billing statement until 6 months later. And the bill was OVER the amount of the retainer. $20,000 spent and ZERO to show for it. No heads up on how much of the retainer was spent along the way. The invoices were vague and she refused to provide detail when questioned. Over $10k was billed just for emails she wrote to us that contained little value. When provided with detailed questions on her billing, she promised to review and respond, but then went MIA again for 2 months. She gave none of the effort she promised in her consultation call. This was one of the worst experiences with an attorney we've had in 20+ years of business. Stay far away from her.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
