Attorney Information

Overview

I have been practicing law since 1998, and have developed a focus in juvenile law, handling delinquency, truancy, and abuse and neglect cases. I am trained to act as a guardian ad litem for children in custody issues and have expanded the firm's appellate practice. From 1999 to 2007, I worked exclusively in the juvenile court room as an assistant public defender and represented minors charged with various crimes ranging from misdemeanors to class X felonies. Additionally, I have represented minors and parents in abuse and neglect cases involving the Department of Children and Family Services. Based on my past court room experience and raising our three children with my husband since 2000 (who is also an attorney managing our firm), I am aware of the sensitive and emotional aspect of a family dealing with legal issues involving children. I am a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, Will County Bar Association, and the Women's Will County Bar Association.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
