I had some substantial tax issues inside my business and didn't have any resources or existing relationships to help me resolve the problems. I took a chance, did the almighty search engine gamble, spoke to several large and small firms, made the right decision, and chose Joe Pearman. From the very first meeting, Joe put me at ease. He laid out a very realistic road map with several options on how to go forward. Many other firms painted a too good to be true picture. He set realistic expectations of the process and all of the potential ups and downs that could possibly come my way. Joe's approach, personal touch, and expertise in these matters helped manage my stress. This allowed me to focus on the business. Joe was very professional and efficient with his time. Everything turned out better than expected. I assume that most people don't talk about their personal and company tax issues out of fear or embarrassment. I know I didn't. I don’t how I could ever repay Joe for the work he did for both me and my business and the relationship we have built. I could not be more grateful that I choose Joe and would recommend anyone who not only wants to get their problems resolved, but to be given realistic expectations about the situation, to hire Joe NOW. I consider hiring Joe one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Most notable was his prompt and thorough attention to detail, minimizing any chance for later difficulty. I had complete confidence in his work on my case, and would recommend him without reservation.

I had some complex federal and state tax issues with several different businesses and needed help working through them. I searched several different firms, met with Joe Pearman and decided to hire him. I worked with Joe over a three year period getting everything resolved satisfactorily. Joe was realistic, presented several different options and did not paint an unrealistic picture of the potential road forward. The assistance he gave me was very valuable and I do not hesitate to recommend him to other potential clients.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
