Overview

Judy G. Hester is a 1986 Cum Laude graduate of Loyola University in Chicago, where she earned her Juris Doctor degree and a Master’s degree in Social Work. She is admitted to practice law in the States of Illinois and Indiana, as well as the U.S. District Courts in the Southern District of Indiana, the Northern District of Illinois, and the Court of Federal Claims. Judy’s diverse experience and training, combined with compassion and understanding, is the foundation for the Brazill Hester law firm and the commitment to promote the legal interests of each of the firm’s clients. Judy concentrates in issues affecting most individuals and families, including divorce, paternity, child custody disputes, parenting time, property valuation/division, and land use issues. She served as a commercial litigator for the prestigious law firm of Seyfarth, Shaw, Fairweather & Geraldson through its Chicago office, subsequently managed the nationwide litigation efforts for Sears Mortgage Corporation (n/k/a PNC Mortgage Corporation), and later continued to counsel Sears Mortgage and its successors following moves to the United Kingdom and later to Indiana. Her litigation and dispute resolution work continued in 1998 in Indiana, representing the Boone County Area Plan Commission, the City of Carmel, and expanding to family companies and individuals. Judy’s clients benefit not only from her skilled representation earned through her comprehensive legal experience, but also from her compassion that has naturally developed as a result of her long-standing commitment to serving others. Judy is a Registered Domestic Relations Mediator and a trained Collaborative Law Professional, Parenting Coordinator, and Guardian ad Litem. She is a member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, Central Indiana Association of Collaborative Professionals, the ISBA, and is the Chairperson for the ISBA Children’s Rights Committee.

I am incredibly thankful to have found a lawyer who made herself available during high stress moments in my life when legal advice was needed quickly. Judy and her team were professional, knowledgeable, responsive, and consistently worked hard on my case for over two years. I never felt like just "another client" but was treated with respect and care. I highly recommend Judy Hester. I couldn't thank her enough for helping to protect my child and me.

When viewing a listing, consider the state advertising restrictions to which lawyers and law firms must adhere, as well as our FindLaw.com Legal Directory disclaimer. Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
