Firm Information
Overview
Family legal conflicts are difficult on so many levels: Emotional. Financial. The stress can even affect you and your family's physical health and relationships with others. Regardless the nature of the conflict, whether it's divorce, child custody litigation, guardianship or grandparent visitation, the dispute is often so charged with anger, fear and uncertainty that a positive and meaningful resolution can seem impossible.
For the past 28 years, I have limited my practice to providing legal counsel and representation to those in St. Joseph County who are struggling with family-related legal mattes. I limit my practice to family law for a good reason: Family law is difficult. It is complex, and it can be unforgiving. It takes a full-time commitment to this single area of the law in order to provided skilled and knowledgeable legal services to those going through some of the most difficult and challenging times of their lives.

Hired Law firm 2019-2024Incredible Lawyer!! I discovered Mr. Blanford among countless Family Law Attorneys online just as I faced the challenging news that my son's father was filing for custody. This journey began in 2019, just before the onset of COVID, and though the case has endured through several unforeseen challenges, I am certain that choosing him as my representative was the right decision. He has fought fiercely for my child's rights, advocating for the parent who has consistently been there to nurture him. Mr. Blanford's extensive experience and deep understanding of the law are truly evident; I’ve witnessed his unmatched skill in the courtroom numerous times. If you seek a knowledgeable attorney who speaks honestly and directly, Mr. Blanford is the champion you need.

Hired Law firm 2020-2022You have to do all the work and make all the contacts. He drags you around despite the needs of your children. If you want him to file things... he will at some point.. His terrible comments he would address me about anything w- he tries to belittle you and the situation. I am heartsick about all the funds I took and trusted him with - I had to go around and make it all work to bring my kids home. And for that matter - he said, (as he shook my hand) "Good job attorney". What a piece of work, So sorry to God I trusted you at all.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
