Overview

Selecting an attorney...is an important decision. Because you will be entrusting your concerns and significant matters to an attorney, it is essential to know who your attorney is and with whom he has associated.

HAHN, WALZ AND KNEPP traces its beginnings to the law practices of Wilford V. Walz and Charles W. Hahn, which began in 1926 and 1933 respectively. The present association began in 1986 when the firms of Hahn and Knepp, and Walz and Walz moved to 509 West Washington Avenue.

Each attorney has developed a practice with a different focus, but with overlapping expertise. This allows you to select one attorney whose practice and experience meet your immediate legal requirements while giving you ready access to a variety of legal services to meet your business and personal needs.

Computer technology has permitted the attorneys at Hahn, Walz, and Knepp to serve their clients' needs in a prompt and efficient manner.

    Consulted Law firm 2024-2026
Attorney Tom Walz Senior is an old gentlemen who works part time and uses delay tactics and non responses to legal matters to me a beneficary. His failure to check personal charges against me at the direction of his co trustee has cost me and the estate much money to their advantage. This may have been a good law firm at one time but Mr. Walz time has long past and he should be retired long ago instead of supplementing his social security

The attorneys that dealt with our estate planning were very easy to talk to and very informative!

    Hired Law firm 2018-2019
We hired Tom Walz to probate our father’s estate. He made numerous mistakes, and all the initial docs filed with the court were wrong. They all had to be redone, and refiled. He then put the wrong name on the EIN, and refused to correct it. So, we had to find Hahn Walz, and hire another firm. Then, even though he never finished the probate, he tried to bill us for $4,500, which was more than twice what it should have been. We finally just paid him $2,000. To top it all off, he was terribly rude, and would never admit to all the mistakes he made. I would stay away if you need a lawyer.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
