Overview

Maryellen graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology, concentrating in Criminology and Criminal Justice. She went on to earn her J.D. from Drake University Law School in 2025, where she received the Academic Achievement Award in Trial Advocacy. While at Drake, Maryellen competed on the nationally ranked Arbitration and TYLA Mock Trial Teams, experiences that allowed her to work closely with many local attorneys and judges and gain valuable insight into the inner workings of litigation. She also gained hands-on legal experience as a student attorney with the Wrongful Convictions Clinic, working with the Midwest Innocence Project.

Maryellen’s practice focuses on criminal defense and post-conviction appeals. She is dedicated to client advocacy and ensuring access to justice. Outside of work, she enjoys mentoring local mock trial and arbitration teams, crocheting, and spending time with her family, friends, and dog.
