We were dumped with Sara Davenport to represent us in a guardianship case of our granddaughter, Veronica, who was abandon by her parents rwice, and was clearly not prepared. We asked if we should have witnesses and she kept saying, " we got this... we got this.." We had friends, family, and witnesses within the community, who have seen us cared for Veronica over the past six years. May 19, was the day of the trial, and Sara didn't even read what Veronica's appointed attorney sent, stating, he recommended, Veronica stayed with us. During the trial Alexis, Veronica's mom was lying and we nudged Sara saying "she's lying," numerous times, and Sara would shh us. Even Veronica stated her Mom was lying. On top of all this the microphones were not working. It was as though Sara was deliberately trying to lose the case, because she never questioned Alexis when having the opportunity. I come from a family of attorney's, unfortunately theyre in Pennsylvania, and they were appalled by her poor representation, especially, when Judge Shepherd gave her ruling and Sara just sat there and allowed a child to be traumatized and devastated emotionally and mentally, not being able to say goodbye to her Nana and Papa, or finish her last two weeks of school and say goodbye to her classmates and teachers, and say goodbye to us. My husband and I are never going to be same going through this journey, because we saw how the truth does NOT bring justice, only LIES. When people found out in the community what happened to Veronica, each and every person was disgusted and shocked. We also were able to obtain a video of what happened after we left, because Sara kept telling us to leave or we will be in contempt. No apology. Nothing. Well, there she was back talking with their atorney waving , which looked like a "check" laughing, while our granddaughter was wiping her tears away. Her Mother not even holding her . Not caring about what she was going through. We have told Ms. Davenport what kind of a person Alexis was also the Leib's , and this should showed us she didn't care about our beautiful Veronica.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
