My family needed a new POA for a sister living in a nursing home. After talking a little, it was brought to our attention that she also didn’t have a will. We were given good advice. All needed paperwork was done in a rather short time frame and at a reasonable fee. My sister’s rights and welfare were put as first priority and we have peace of mind.

Working with Jack Gatlin and his team greatly relieved the stress that my family was dealing with after a personal injury incident. We were able to focus on helping our family member recover both physically and mentally while Jack took care of all the insurance and medical bill issues. Calling him quickly after the accident was the best thing we could have done. He got right to work and was a great comfort to me and my family. Great team of professionals.

Jack has helped my business through several things in the past year. He and his team at Gatlin Voelker have always been professional, helpful, and focused on results and customer service. I look to him as a valuable asset to our business as we navigate the waters of the start-up phase of business. Jack has been a pleasure to work with, highly recommended.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
