Consulted Attorney 2025I don't think she even showed up to my court date. I was three minutes late and they started the case without me or her and clearly I lost but when I spoke to her she was rude and dismissive as well. She should be disbarred

Hired Attorney 2024This review is based on my opinion as an Army officer with 25 years of service and my interaction with roxann smalley as a court appointed attorney. One of if not the rudest most unprofessional person that I have ever encountered in 60 years!!! After our first attorney (who was exceptional) moved on to pursue other opportunities we were assigned a second attorney (roxann smalley). We were trying to get copies of court documents. After not hearing from her for a couple of weeks I went by the county clerk's office and was provided a phone number and an address to contact her. I tried to contact her several times throughout the day with no response. I decided to go by the office address that I was provided by the county clerk. When I arrived to the address provided it was a home and a residential area. I went up and knocked on the door after several minutes a gentleman answered the door and I asked if this was the location for roxann smalley. He replied yes and indicated that there was an office somewhere on the premises and that she would be returning within 10 to 15 minutes. After waiting a considerable amount of time I went back to the door and left my phone number with the gentleman. Sometime after leaving roxann called me on a different number than I was provided by the court clerk. She seemed annoyed that I was at her home address. I latter discovered that she also puts that address on her email as a business address. I sent her a text on the number that she called me on with my email address that she verified that she received and requested that she send us a copy of the court documents. After a day or so of not receiving the documents I attempted to contact her again via both numbers that I had, text, voicemail I was ignored. I then left her a voicemail to let know that if I couldn't contact her via phone I would be happy to stop by her office address that I had been provided by the clerks office. Shortly after I received a call from very annoyed roxann on the number she had called me on the first time. She informed that she had sent the documents twice. I had her read me the email address and she had sent our personal court documents to the wrong email. I asked her if she used the email I had texted to her, she said no she had written it down. And then had that gall to be upset that I had called and texted her on her personal cell number that she called me on and that I had indicated that I was going to go by her office address that the court provided and she puts on her email. After receiving an upcoming court date I requested a consultation multiple times either in person or via video and was blown off for several days. After she finally called me she was rude cutting me off while I was speaking talking over me refused to go over or discuss any of the questions I had and insisted that those topics would not be covered at this court date, when in fact those topics were discussed and reviewed.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
