Firm Information
Overview
Dedicated to achieving justice for those who have been injured, the attorneys at Garmer & Prather, PLLC, represent people from across Kentucky. Our practice is focused completely on litigation, so we are prepared to go the distance to obtain compensation for a long list of injuries, including the following: semi-truck crashes, other car accidents, automobile defects (such as roof crushes and air bag failures), nursing home abuse and neglect, products liability (that is, injuries caused by defective products), premises liability, airplane and helicopter crashes, dog bites and other animal bites, brain injuries, birth injuries, construction accidents, medical malpractice, defective drugs and medical devices, boating injuries, fires and explosions, railroad worker injuries, and all types of wrongful death claims. In addition, we have a significant horse injury practice, including claims such as equine veterinary malpractice and adulterated feed cases. Garmer & Prather also practices in the area of employment and wage and hour cases, particularly class actions.
In just the last decade, our law firm has obtained settlements and verdicts for our clients totaling more than $80 million. Our attorneys have decades of experience, and we encourage clients to visit us early for a free initial consultation to help ensure that we can get them what they deserve. Kentucky law states that in many cases, legal claims cannot be filed more than one year after an injury, although there are certain exceptions (including for children and the seriously disabled, and for negligence that was not initially discovered). We understand those laws and rules and use them to help our clients get back on their feet.
We do not charge our clients anything up front. Rather, we collect our fee after the case is settled and money has been recovered for our clients. While individual arrangements sometimes differ to meet particular clients' needs, generally if our client does not recover anything, then we receive no fee and the client is not required to reimburse us for the expenses we have paid in pursuing the claim.
We are a statewide law firm. Along with cases in Lexington and Central Kentucky, the lawyers at Garmer & Prather extend their services from Pikeville to Paducah and all points in between and beyond, including Hopkinsville, Owensboro, Bowling Green, Somerset, Ashland, Louisville, Covington and the rest of Northern Kentucky, and every other corner of the state.
For the last few years, our firm has been chosen by the U.S. News & World Report Best Law Firms as a tier 1 law firm. We are a trusted resource for lawyers from across Kentucky and around the country who refer cases to us. When an injured persons need meaningful results and wants to work with an attorney who is behind them 100%, that person often chooses our firm.

Hired Law firm 2023-2024I have known Jay for many years as a colleague. Recently it was necessary for me to consult with him in the role of a potential client. I have known that he was at the top of his game and one of the most knowledgeable in his field. What I didn't know was how incredibly kind he could be while also being meticulously thorough. He undertook a deep review of the records with consulting experts and gave us an opinion while simultaneously respecting the depth of our loss. One of the best litigators I know and a darn good human too.
