Mr. Daves represented my son and his girlfriend in an EPO case. He let the other attorney badger the girlfriend for over 2 hours. He did not object to anything. It was as if he was working for the other side. The EPO got switched to a DPO. I would not hire this guy to represent anyone I care about!

I reached out to Mr. Daves when I got notice of a court order in the coming weeks to ask for representation. Mr. Daves agreed to help and told me he would call me back. Two weeks went by and he still had not returned my phone calls. I assume I’m going to represent myself in this case so I go to my scheduled hearing and as I’m waiting in the waiting room to get in, I get a call from Mr. Daves, letting me know he just left court for me and he asked the judge to continue.. meaning I had to use another day off work. He said he had not had a chance to look over my file so that’s why he continued the hearing. After this court date was rescheduled he said he needed to speak with me before the next hearing. He didn’t call me AGAIN. I call him 3 days before court and left a voicemail so he calls me back same day and tells me I really don’t need him for this case and he’s putting me back to a district attorney. He said he would let the courts know, but as of 2 hours before court he has not answered the phone or emailed the documents he said he’d send. I would not recommend Mr.Daves, I felt like he did not care about my case because my legal insurance doesn’t pay him as much as his personal retainer. I feel like he shouldn’t have that contract with them if he isn’t going to actually accept clients paying with insurance. I wish he had of let me know from the beginning he didn’t want to take this case and that would’ve saved all of us time and money.

Some lawyers publish comparative information regarding the services that they provide which may be subject to specific comparative communications restrictions.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
