Overview
Matthew “Matt” Kaufman is a Louisville, Kentucky personal injury attorney with Kaufman & Stigger, PLLC Injury Lawyers. A Louisville native, third-generation attorney, and lifelong Kentuckian, Matt represents individuals and families who have been seriously injured or lost a loved one because of the negligence of others.
Matt focuses his practice on personal injury cases, including car accidents, commercial truck and semi-truck accidents, motorcycle accidents, wrongful death claims, dog bites, and other serious injury cases. He has devoted his legal career to representing injured people and their families against insurance companies and other responsible parties.
Matt has obtained substantial recoveries for his clients, including two $1.6 million settlements, a $1 million wrongful death settlement, an $870,000 daycare incident settlement, a $700,000 automobile accident settlement, a $500,000 truck accident settlement, and a $500,000 policy-limits settlement involving a dog bite injury to a minor.
For Matt, however, representing an injured person involves more than the final settlement amount. He believes clients deserve to understand what is happening with their case and to have meaningful access to the attorney representing them. His approach emphasizes personal attention, communication, detailed investigation, identifying all potentially available insurance coverage, and pursuing the full compensation available for his clients’ injuries and losses.
Matt’s connection to Louisville and to the practice of law runs deep. He graduated from St. Xavier High School in Louisville in 2006 and Centre College in Danville, Kentucky, in 2010, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in History. He then returned to Louisville and earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law in 2013, graduating cum laude. He was admitted to the Kentucky Bar in 2013.
Matt is a third-generation attorney. His interest in representing injured people developed at an early age while watching his father, attorney Marshall Kaufman, advocate for injury victims and their families. Matt began working at the family law office while he was still in high school and continued working with the firm before becoming an attorney.
Today, Matt practices personal injury law at Kaufman & Stigger alongside his father, Marshall Kaufman, and his identical twin brother, attorney Jimmy Kaufman. Together with the firm’s other attorneys and staff, Matt represents injury victims in Louisville and throughout Kentucky.
Matt has been selected to the Kentucky Super Lawyers Rising Stars list for 2021, 2022, and 2023. He is also a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and is involved with professional organizations including the Kentucky Bar Association, Louisville Bar Association, Kentucky Justice Association, and American Association for Justice.
Matt’s practice includes representing clients in matters involving:
- Car accidents and automobile injury claims
- Commercial truck and semi-truck accidents
- Motorcycle accidents
- Wrongful death claims
- Serious and catastrophic injuries
- Dog bites and animal attacks
- Pedestrian injuries
- Boating accidents
- Other personal injury and negligence claims
Matt understands that a serious accident can affect far more than a client’s immediate medical bills. An injury can interfere with a person’s ability to work, support a family, participate in everyday activities, and plan for the future. His job is to understand those consequences, investigate the circumstances surrounding the injury, identify available insurance and responsible parties, and pursue a result that accounts for the client’s losses.
Matt is particularly attentive to insurance coverage issues. In personal injury cases, identifying every potentially available policy can make a significant difference in the client’s recovery. Matt and the Kaufman & Stigger team investigate available coverage rather than simply accepting an insurance company’s initial representation about what may or may not be available.
Clients who have reviewed Matt on Avvo have highlighted his communication, responsiveness, personal attention, and ability to guide them through the injury-claim process. Matt believes that personal service and strong legal representation should go together.
Matt lives in the Louisville area with his wife, Janna, and their three children. His personal and professional roots remain firmly connected to Louisville and Kentucky, where he has spent his entire legal career representing injured people and their families.
If you are looking for a Louisville personal injury lawyer, car accident attorney, truck accident lawyer, motorcycle accident attorney, or wrongful death attorney, Matt Kaufman represents injured clients through Kaufman & Stigger, PLLC Injury Lawyers in Louisville, Kentucky.
