Hired Law firm 2017-2024i would advice anyone to run away from this lawyer . M. Lehmann lacks responsiveness and is very expensive. we paid already more than 120 000 $ in legal fees ! After nearly 7 years of administration and final judgement of possession beeing filed 9 month ago, M. Lehmann is incapable of closing probate and ensuring the final distribution of assets to heirs. i feel especially for my sister's in law which his fighting with agressive cancer, has got to pay for very expensive treatments, but still has not been distributed her final inheritance. And this lawyer is considered highly ethical!!! a real farce of a man and his supportive peers taking advantage of human dispair and feeding from it.

Consulted Law firm 2022Never use services by Carole Cukell Neff. She billed me for her time even when I had no agreement or notification that the initial phone call consultation would cost anything. In March of this year (2022) I was calling around to find an attorney who could help me understand how to set up a trust if needed to avoid probate for my heirs. I was referred to Carole Neff and a phone call was set up. I was never told that the initial phone call or consultation would cost anything. As a matter of fact, she didn't have my street address. When I raised my initial question, she launched into a long explanation of probate in Louisiana and how laws had changed. I asked her about next steps to get off the phone call as she had talked me out of a trust in the first 2 minutes of the call. Then she said something to the effect of, "Well, if we don't proceed, then nothing, but if we do I'm definitely going to bill you for this time because I gave you a lot of legal advice." I was turned off instantly by this statement as I had not solicited or agreed to pay for any advice, and I thought that would be the end of it. But no, she send an email bill and then spent more time looking up my street address to send me a paper bill for services I didn't agree to, "advice" didn't help me. This law firm should update their practices to avoid this in the future. Bad business.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
