New Orleans Personal Injury Lawyer

Overview

Self Employed, Managing Partner/Attorney - 1980 - Present

The focus of the firm's practice is, has always been and always will be one area of practice: personal injury claims and litigation. Mr. DiLeo prides himself in focusing on getting the most compensation he can for his clients, the victims of negligence, corporate negligence and insurance abuse. Through an intensely personalized approach to representing his clients, Mr. DiLeo makes it his goal to understand each of his client's needs as they go through the daunting personal injury claim and litigation process. He knows that the practice of law cannot be applied as a cookie cutter approach in a live courtroom setting. He knows that every case is different, and every client has his/her own individual needs and priorities. He knows that making a personal injury claim can be a frightening and unfamiliar process for people, especially those who are suffering from physical and mental injuries, loss of employment opportunities and the loss of an independent lifestyle.

Mr. DiLeo specializes in all aspects of personal injury litigation, from wrongful death claims and crippling, debilitating injuries to temporary but still limiting sprains/strains from an accident. His expertise has garnered him a reputation for being a remarkable advocate in court for his clients, as can be shown by his case results, and his detailed and methodical trial preparation has earned him the respect of judges throughout the state.

Through his innovative "Your Legal Minute" and "Your Legal Thirty" advertising campaigns, Mr. DiLeo leads the pack in professional legal advertising standards. His ads set him apart from the "slogan" attorneys that litter the airways and highways. His ads are renowned as public service announcements, providing non-lawyers with helpful tips for understanding the complexities of the claim process and personal injury litigation. Mr. DiLeo presents these ads for the benefit of the community he serves. His Legal Minutes and Legal Thirties can be seen on this website.

Mr. DiLeo, since his admission to practice in 1980, has engaged in civil litigation, has tried several jury trials, bench trials in personal injury cases, and has obtained the reversal and/or affirmation of cases involving the expansion of personal injury damages before the state appellate courts (Broome v. Gauthier, ((La. App., 4th Cir. 11/10/83) 443 So.2d 1127, (successfully extending mental anguish damages to uninjured victims, owners of property damages, who are present to see and experience the destruction of their property); and State Supreme Court (Jones v. Thomas, ((La. 1983)) 426 So.2d 609, holding that workmen’s compensation tort immunity does not extend to and exclude all intentional acts).

Mr. DiLeo's involvement in class action and mass joinder cases has provided him with expertise in case management, fact and expert discovery, steering committee administration, the proof of claim process, class action/mass joinder trials, and the role, mechanism and operation of Plaintiff Steering Committees.

Mr. Di Leo maintains an AV rating with Martindale-Hubbell (Lawyers.com).

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
