Attorney Information
Overview
Vijay Mani is a talented litigator and trial lawyer with extensive labor and employment experience. He has earned the praise of judges, colleagues, and clients, as well as from opposing counsel. A grateful client said of Vijay: "Your professionalism, hard work, your guidance, kindness and caring helped make our experience a success . . . when we wanted to give up, you encouraged us to stay the course. With your utmost efficiency, knowledge and dedication you helped us win our case."
Vijay's vast experience in employment and labor law includes qui tam litigation under the False Claims Act. He has also represented private and public sector employees who were victims of workplace discrimination, harassment, retaliation, unequal pay, and unlawful termination. Vijay has won favorable outcomes in every case he has ever taken to trial. He has succeeded on behalf of his clients in complex cases involving gender discrimination, unequal pay, sexual harassment, pregnancy discrimination, religious discrimination, as well as discrimination based military service.
Vijay also represents employers in all aspects of employment law and conducts training for small businesses as well as for large corporate clients. Vijay has assisted employers with unionized and non-unionized workforces on a broad range of transactions, organizational policies, and litigation defense.
Vijay's credo for the practice of law, based on diligence and communication, is inspired by Abraham Lincoln: "The leading rule for the lawyer, as for the man of every other calling, is diligence. Leave nothing for tomorrow which can be done today. Never let your correspondence fall behind. Whatever piece of business you have in hand, before stopping, do all the labor pertaining to it which can then be done."
Vijay graduated with honors from American University's Washington College of Law, where he was an editor for the Labor and Employment Law Journal, and from the University of Tulsa, where he played college tennis. Vijay was quoted by Bloomberg Law and served as Faculty for the Maryland State Bar Association’s Employment Law Institute. Outside the office, Vijay enjoys pick-up basketball and a good chess match.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
