Hired Attorney Michael J. McCarthy 2021-2024Attorney McCarthy is an excellent attorney! I can not recommend him enough. I have used him as my divorce attorney, and I would definitely recommend him to anyone going through a divorce or other legal matter. When we have attended court, even the judge has sung his praise. I used one other attorney before working with Mike, and they charged me astronomical fees and even doubled charged me. Attorney McCarthy charges a reasonable price and is very knowledgeable. Additionally, he is a good human!

Hired Attorney Michael J. McCarthy 2021A friend and I went in for a consultation in January 2021 for my friend to get divorced and he paid paid the requested amount. Since it took a few months to obtain the out of state marriage certificate, we finally dropped it off the last week of November 2021. I've called and left messages from January 2022 through August 2022 with no return call. Now there is no message on the voicemail. We've received no info or refund. A this point it appear as if we've been robbed by this attorney

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
