Overview

Ms. Underwood focuses her practice in a wide variety of estate and tax planning, probate and trust administration, contested probate and trust matters.

Ms. Underwood is a former Chair of the Probate and Estate Planning Council of the State Bar of Michigan, past editor of the Probate Journal, member of the Real Property, Trust Law and Taxation Sections of the American Bar Association; the Taxation Section of the State Bar of Michigan, the Oakland County Bar Association, and a Fellow of the State Bar of Michigan. She has written several articles and is a chapter author for the ICLE publication Michigan Estate Planning Handbook. Ms. Underwood received her B.A. degree with high distinction from Wayne State University in 1981 and her Juris Doctor summa cum laude from the Detroit College of Law in 1991. She lectures frequently for many groups and organizations, including the Institute for Continuing Legal Education. She is a Past President of the Wayne State University Alumni Association, Past President of the Woodbridge Citizen's Association, past member of the Board of Visitors of the Institute of Gerontology, and past board member for St. Luke's Health Ministries and Canterbury on the Lake.

    Ms. Lauren Underwood is one sharp and intelligent attorney. She managed me and my three siblings involving a number of complex issues with grace. My family and I have never been through such an experience and Lauren provided each of us guidance, direction with a strong leadership quality that it takes to manage such a circumstance. Our situation was very personal and emotional by which Lauren instinctively managed each of us individually helping us cope and comprehend the process we were facing. Most of all Lauren did all of this for my family with empathy, kindness and compassion. Lauren tells you like it is, she does not mince words, she speaks directly and distinctively and she does it all with a polished charm. Lauren and her staff maintained a constant communication regarding the state of our affairs which was imperative to me being I live out of the state of Michigan.
