Hired Attorney 2025-2026This man took $7000 from my 21 year old son who has a an alcohol/substance abuse problem, and let him get sentenced to 2 years in prison flat time(meaning the whole 2 years has to be served) and led him to believe he'd be able to attend boot camp hence the reason he agreed to the plea, not knowing he actually wouldn't be able to go to boot camp until he served the whole 2 years first and at that point his sentence would be done. Then, once asking him to withdraw the plea or work with the prosecutor to come up with a different charge so he would be eligible, he basically refused. The whole ten months that he represented my son, he really didn't do one thing that my son asked him to do and he never fought for treatment!! He could of gotten a two year sentence with no representation so he didn't help my son's case at all! He took $7000 and left my son whos only been in trouble 1x to be imprisoned with ...... forever affecting his mental health!

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
