Philosophy
Employment law is developing on a continuing basis, both in the state court systems and in our federal courts and administrative agencies, with new legal theories, defenses, standards of proof, methods of developing evidence, and dispute resolution forums being tested all over the country. An effective litigation practice requires a mixture of expertise, experience, brainpower and muscle, and every successful litigation firm has a lawyer who can be counted on to develop ideas, theories and arguments that come from that kind of background and keeps pace with the developments in employment law.
Biography
Barbara Urlaub’s law practice focuses litigation and appeals involving employment rights claims, municipal law, and complex business and commercial claims, in both state and federal courts, and in the arbitration setting, and providing advice and counsel to clients on employment rights and business issues. Barbara is also frequently retained to serve as an independent investigator for sexual harassment and employment discrimination complaints, and for high level employee misconduct concerns.
Barbara began her career as a Pre-Hearing Attorney in the Michigan Court of Appeals, and subsequently served as Law Clerk to the Hon. George LaPlata in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. Her appellate experience includes representation of clients before the United States Court of Appeals, the Michigan Court of Appeals, and the Michigan Supreme Court, and in the case of adverse agency decisions, appeals to the Michigan Circuit Courts. Barbara was recognized as Top Lawyer in Appellate Law by DBusiness in 2014.
In addition to her appellate work, Barbara has extensive experience in representing clients in contract disputes, trade secret litigation, non-competition enforcement actions, employment discrimination actions and other complex litigation matters.
Prior to joining Gasiorek, Morgan, Greco, McCauley & Kotzian, Barbara was Of Counsel to a Troy law firm, and worked in-house at a large professional employer organization where she handled the company’s employment-related litigation.
