Sarah Prescott - Salvatore Prescott Porter & Porter Sarah is exceptional legal counsel. I am very pleased with the magnitude of our success. If I had the need, I would not hesitate to work with her again. I have many reasons to extol her merits, but I will keep this concise and focus on the high-level virtues important t me. Sarah came highly recommended from my friend and former counsel for GM, who is familiar with her for her expertise and record of success. He provided two referrals, from which I am grateful Sarah returned my message the same day. Several days later, when we had already agreed to work together and had begun developing strategy, the other recommended lawyer called me. That was a very brief conversation given the lack of urgency demonstrated on their end. I did a good amount of preparation for that first strategy discussion knowing that Sarah would need as much detail as possible to determine the best direction in which to proceed. I was impressed with her ability to articulate all the options, discuss the merit of each, and draft a plan to pursue our objectives. We made adjustments along the way as needed, especially considering the impact the Covid-19 pandemic had on the process. I saw Sarah as empathetic, compassionate and attentive to me. She kept me up-to-date as frequently as I needed. I perceive that opposing council found her to be direct about our expectations and tenacious about progress. Together we achieved our goals. I am very pleased with Sarah and her team at Salvatore Prescott Porter & Porter.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
