    Hired Law firm 2020
Elliot Margolis located in Royal Oak, is completely unprofessional and will keep your money, even if he did not do anything for your case. I sought out Elliot’s services to assist with a move that my ex-husband was trying to stop by threatening me with a letter from his lawyer. I hired Elliot to mediate this matter. He did nothing he claimed he would do. We never had the meeting. He never called me once to communicate and I found out later that the matter I brought to him could not have gone to court because there were no violations to the divorce decree. He kept $750 for the consultation, stating that I have a credit with him. My ex-husband and I resolved this on our own and his lawyer pulled back. Elliot did not inform me that his lawyer withdrew. Additionally, the day I met with Elliot in his office to attain his services, he hit on me. He stated that if he were younger and I were Jewish, he would ask me on a date. He disclosed that he does not date outside his religion. All round, immoral man. Does not work ethically or morally. Attain his services at your own risk.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
