Hired Law firm 2019I came to this firm a complete basket case. My lawyer answered all my questions and put my mind at ease. She worked so hard on my case and obviously know the law. We ended up settling my case with me getting everything I wanted and hoped for. The staff is exellent and very helpful. I would and do refer anyone to them .who is thinking about divorce or has a child custody problem.

Consulted Law firm 2018I met and agreed to have Mr. Brown, an attorney at the Ihrie O'Brien law firm, represent me in a civil suit based on condominium law in Saint Clair Shores. Three weeks after I had hand delivered requested documents and received no word, I called him and asked how my case was progressing. He belatedly told me he could not represent me because I (not he) had a "conflict of interest" due to the fact he (already knew) he represented Saint Clair Shores. I not only was delayed in finding another lawyer but also had to replace the 40+ pages of documents he never returned to me, despite three phone and email requests from me that he do so.

Hired Law firm 2017-2019I paid approximately several thousand dollars and am still paying them off for services. I hired them for a child custody matter that I was told was resolved but is not. I now have to hire another attorney to redo where they messed up (at my expense) and they have yet to refund my money. It is a very sad situation.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
