Hired Law firm 2024-2025We were filing chapt 7, in the beginning it was fantastic. After many months nothing when checking his assistant told us they were not going to assist us even after the payments and being pd completely. Asking if we were going to be compensated for at least some, the agreement was for half. The assistant said she mailed the check almost a month ago! After many attempts to see where it was we received a rude letter and it appears nothing will be done. The US mail doesn't take 30 days to send a check. Most professional places check with there accountants what's up and usually reissue. In the beginning we asked to pick it up but she insisted shed mail! Is this why?? Do they not refund?? His prior assistant was very professional and communicated we all to bad this one isn't the same. So I don't recommend the brainerd office! Good luck if you ever need a refund, perhaps keep looking. What a shame. Mr Shaw is very pleasant.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
