Hired Attorney Amy L. Helsene 2025-2026I was working with Amy Helsene since November 2025. She did not communicate well and I had to chase her for emails or phone calls back to me. So I requested a different attorney and that upset her so she chose to file a "withdrawal" notice to the courts (even though she didn't withdrawal I requested to replace her). Then I get an email saying "My firm no longer represents you and you will not be assigned a different attorney". So Larkin Hoffman left me with no attorney, in the middle of a custody case. With a hearing less than a month away. I highly advise anyone to not be represented by her or the firm. Extremely unprofessional. I needed a lawyer that cared for me and my children's future together, her and her firm left me in a extremely vulnerable position as a am fighting for me and my children's relationship. I also never got a monthly financial notice of where my money was going. I contacted John R. Hill hoping to get some help in the matter just to receive an email from him stating "I reviewed the file and do not believe that I have the time and attention your case deserves" Yet again, leaving me in the middle of a custody case without a care in the world, all because Amy was handling my case extremely poorly and got upset when I requested another attorney.

Hired Law firm 2021Hired Larkin Hoffman for a landlord issue. He turned my gas off in the middle of winter and refused to fix the items that were broken. So I hired Bryan, he said this would be a pretty easy case. Would cost about $6000 to make $15k. He ended up dragging it out to a cool $13k and then basically lost the case. Very poor and I will be posting this message to multiple sites.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
