St. Paul Workers' Compensation Law Firm

Overview

The Law Office of Joshua Borken is a law practice solely devoted to the representation of injured workers.

With an uncle and older brother who are both lawyers, Joshua wanted to follow in their footsteps from a young age. In addition, his mom was a union representative, and he saw the pride she took in protecting the rights and interests of others. Becoming a lawyer helped Joshua continue the family tradition of helping others.

Raised in Bloomington, Minnesota, Josh received his Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Minnesota. During college, he completed multiple internships in the Minnesota State Legislature, including a turn on the Public Safety Finance Committee.

He went on to attend Hamline University School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor. In addition to making the Dean's List four semesters in a row, Josh also represented clients with employment law claims in the school's clinic program.

Josh has represented employers and insurance companies in workers' compensation claims. He has learned their tips and tricks and is now using those tactics to help injured workers fight back. In his free time, Josh umpires little league and senior men's league baseball games. He also enjoys attending Twins games, going to concerts, running, and listening to music.

Josh was fantastic to talk to. We only went so far as a consultation and I decided that I did not want to move forward at this time but if I change my mind I will definitely be calling him back. I asked him several questions and he was willing and able to help. I feel that he would helpful and devoted in my case.

Josh is a BEAST. I was hurt on the job and it was NOT at all handled, like you would expect or should expect a Huge well known company to handle it. I was extremely nervous and worried about my injury and my job. I had very high anxiety about calling a attorney.I was very apprehensive, because all the attorneys that i have ever had ( Only saw my skin color and a transman) they NEVER saw me as a human or fought for me and along side of me. That all changed as soon as i met Josh.Josh treated me like a human from the moment that we spoke and met,i never felt judged,He was always very respectful and professional.Josh never made me feel like he was just in it for the money, Or talked down to me.Josh treated me like a human and made sure that everyone else on his team and the opposing team followed suit. Josh always kept me in the loop and kept me informed and prepared for everything that was coming my way.I respect and appreciate that.Everytime that i would call, text or send a e-mail he or his staff would always respond rapidly. I can't say enough about Josh and his staff but i will leave you with this WE ONE THE CASE!! In conclusion i hands down would recommend Josh and his staff. Here is a prime example of his character. He was paid more than his fee and do you know that he told me and made sure that the company sent me the overpayment. { I also forgot to include that the team of people that he paired me with were AMAZING!. My worker,Physical Therapist & Orthopedic Doctor.} Team Josh All Day!!!!

Joshua did a great job for me, advocating for me against a formidable insurance company. My own Doctors and medical clinic proved to be less than cooperative but through the persistence of Mr. Borken and his staff we had a very favorable outcome. Joshua kept me well informed all throughout the process and was good at answering all of my questions in a timely manner.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
