Overview
Attorney Tommy Lyons is the founder of the Consumer Justice Center P.A. His goal was to create a law firm dedicated exclusively to consumer rights litigation. Since then, he and the firm have consistently achieved ground-breaking results and are responsible for precedent-setting rulings at the trial and appellate court levels.
As an attorney, Tommy has successfully represented consumers in a variety of legal matters, handling everything from small cases to multi-million-dollar class actions. Tommy focuses his attention on representing consumers against debt collection and repossession businesses, credit reporting agencies, and banking institutions. He has been appointed to serve as class counsel by federal courts all over the country.
Tommy received a B.A. in History and Political Science from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas in 1990. Tommy graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1994. Tommy began practicing alongside his father in 1994 at then opened the Consumer Justice Center P.A. in 1996. Tommy has focused his entire practice on representing the little guy and litigated those cases primarily in the federal court system for nearly 30 years.
Tommy has lectured for continuing legal education programs, law schools, and community groups throughout the country, and has been a regular speaker/contributor and member of the National Association of Consumer Advocates (NACA) and National Consumer Law Center (NCLC) for over 20 years.
Throughout his life, Tommy has diligently and tirelessly fought for justice and equity, standing on the side of people who have been taken advantage of, commercially wronged, abused, or defrauded. He brings that same dedication to his work as an attorney.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
