Hired Law firm 2009This attorney is ONLY interested in making money and couldn't care less about providing representation. She only did the bare minimum and never even tried to make things better for me. At the time, I was unemployed and going through a divorce, but she was burning my money like it was nothing. I ended up needing to use a public defender because she used up the more than $4000 I had already paid her and I couldn't afford to pay her more. Not that I have used a lot of attorneys, but this one definitely gave me a bad impression of the whole profession. While she was supposed to be working my case, in front of me, at the court house, she was talking about a real estate deal with another attorney. I feel she should be disqualified from practicing law at the very least. Because of this attorney, I have not been able to see or even speak to my daughter in ten years (10) and I have had to hire two additional attorneys to try and fix the mess she made. Never trust her. Never deal with her. She is only out to maximize her profit and could not care less about what your suffering is. She doesn't deserve to be walking around in public with other people, much less receive the trust of clients.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
