Hired Attorney 2020-2030Mr. Conger was recommended to me and my company by our business lawyer. We had a profit-sharing plan that a TPA had done a poor job designing and administrating. We ended up with a disqualified plan and were facing heavy penalties and fines, not to mention our plan for us and our employees being disqualified. Mr. Conger met with us and then studied our situation thoroughly. He found a solution for us which meant submitting our plan under a voluntary program with the IRS. Mr. Conger prepared the submission and dealt with the IRS for us. He was able to correct our plan and then present it to the IRS, showing how our plan would be brought into compliance. He pleaded our case to the IRS, who then agreed with Mr. Conger, saving us a great deal of money in interest and penalties. With the corrected adopted plan, we funded what we needed to, and then had a qualified plan with the correct accounting, saving our employees' retirement funds, and ours as well. What could have been a complete disaster was avoided because of Mr. Conger's ability to rescue our plan. We later found out from an associate that Mr. Conger has rescued more than 100 plans. He is the absolute best benefits lawyer (he is rated as one of the best), and we are so glad he was recommended to us. We are continuing to use him to oversee our plan, and he helped us select a new TPA as well. Our business was good-sized, but whatever your benefits needs are, Mr. Conger is the only way to go.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
