    Hired Attorney 2017
I hire her to do a legal separation, eviction. She was unsure if she could do the eviction and did a consult with.another attorney. Filed the paper, went to court and eviction was granted by judge, but sheriff's department would not enforce it as I did not want my husband removed, just the vagrants. Waste of money! Nothing resolved. This happened after waiting to hear from her and to get return call as she was moving offices. Finally called and asked told her I no longer wanted to proceed with her. She then said she would finish for an additional amount. I then found another attorney, and she drug her feet to get my records to her.

I am sorry you were not fully pleased with the services of my office. I do, however, dispute that I drug my feet getting the records to the new attorney, since I personally drove them out to that attorney within a few days of you moving over to their office, without charge. I got you the eviction judgment that you wanted, but I can't help it if your husband voluntarily allows these 'vagrants' to live with him, so that the sheriff's office would not execute on the judgment. I did not request additional money for my time (as you state), but rather for the necessary filing fees for execution by the sheriff. I'm wondering why you're just now posting this complaint two years later. I hope you have since been able to resolve your issues. Thank you.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
