Attorney Information
Overview
My practice is focused on representing individuals in Employment Discrimination and Personal Injury matters. Following law school, I spent several years working at a large civil defense firm where I represented corporate clients. I put the knowledge and expertise I gained working on ‘the other side' to use in order to better advocate for my clients, and find great satisfaction in helping each of my clients to achieve a fair outcome to their case. I have experience at all phases of litigation, including first and second chair trial experience, and I enjoy working with clients of all backgrounds. As a fluent Spanish-speaker, I am uniquely suited to represent Spanish speaking clients. I also frequently co-counsel with other law firms on personal injury, products liability, or employment discrimination matters involving Spanish-speaking clients or witnesses.
I also serve as appointed counsel under the Criminal Justice Act for clients facing federal criminal charges in the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri.
Before entering private practice, I served as a law clerk for the Honorable Dean Whipple of the Western District of Missouri, where I assisted Judge Whipple at every phase of both civil and criminal litigation. Before law school, I worked in Washington, D.C. as Press Secretary for United States Congressman Silvestre Reyes and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
I am a certified Spanish- language Court Interpreter and have lived and travelled throughout Latin America and Spain.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
