Knowledgeable. Client Focused. Ready to Fight. At Patel Law Firm, LLC, I demonstrate this motto every day as I assist clients with criminal defense, family law and landlord tenant cases along with various other matters in Jackson County and Independence, Missouri. I am an experienced lawyer who began my career by handling very serious cases. I will work on each client's case as if it is the only case I am handling, and I will work quickly and directly on your case to gain the best possible outcome. I maintain good relations with prosecutors and am familiar with county, city and court policies.
I operate a full-service criminal defense law firm. I handle all misdemeanors and felonies, including drug crimes, burglary, robbery, forgery, bad checks, sex crimes, child pornography, and prostitution. I represent clients charged with DUI and DWI as well as traffic violations. I represent clients charged in state or federal court.
In addition to criminal defense, Patel Law Firm assists clients with bankruptcy and a range of family law problems. I assist with divorce, separation agreements, property distribution, spousal maintenance or support, child support and visitation, among other matters. My law firm also represents landlords in landlord/tenant disputes.
I offer free initial consultations. I am available any time of day or night, including evenings and weekends by appointment. I can be reached directly. My office in Independence is conveniently located across the street from the Jackson County courthouse.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
