Verified ClientConsulted Attorney 2020This is a SCAM! She DOES NOT offer a free initial consultation! Once you get in contact with her, her or her paralegal will tell you it’ll be $300 for the initial consultation and for her to discuss what she thinks she can do with your case so that you can decide whether to hire her or not. They KNEW (they spoke with my mother in law and than me and told us BOTH the same thing) I had court on a specific date and it wasn’t until the following evening AFTER my consultation that her paralegal told me Deborah was on vacation then and could not represent me!!! She point blank withheld her vacation when told of the court date so that she could collect the consultation fee! What a scam! And to make it even worse, she tells you it’ll be $300 and we BOTH (live in separate states so two separate conversations) confirmed and wrote down exactly what was included and what would be done for the $300 - and at the end they forced me to pay well over another $400 PLUS the following day I received a bill stating that somehow I then owed another $41! How could I possibly owe even more if the consultation was DONE and you forced me to pay over $400 MORE than agreed upon?! NEVER USE HER OR THIS LAW FIRM! It’s a scam!! She thought she could quickly make some money by knowingly not being able to represent the prospective client due to a vacation during their court date yet setting up and not just charging but WAY overcharging them the agreed upon amount for a consultation!

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
