Hired Law firm 2018-2019Receiving a FINRA inquiry letter was one of the most unsettling moments of my life. Having been in the securities business for over 20 years, I never thought it would happen to me. My first instinct was to be cheap and respond on my own. I’m so glad I decided to discuss with an attorney before responding. I had phone consultations with a variety of attorneys in different states and decided to retain Mr. Burns. He was quick to respond to my inquiries and was very knowledgeable and organized. We had multiple phone appointments and email exchanges. He dealt directly with FINRA on my behalf and he guided me through the entire process. There were times when I had to make decisions and I decided to trust him and his expertise and he never steered me wrong. His insight and advice were invaluable. My FINRA inquiry resolved with a great outcome and there is no doubt that it was completely due to Mr. Burns’ representation. His fees were more than reasonable and he is worth every dollar and more. If you would ever like to speak to me directly for more information or a verbal reference…..Mr. Burns has my contact information.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
