Hired Attorney 2020-2021Mark Gruber was a horrible attorney choice for me. He billed $50,000. to represent me for my divorce- and was only my attorney for 3 months before we parted ways! During that time, he diddled around and represented me at a motion hearing (I will be generous and say it was 3 billable hours). He was so poorly prepared,- it was as if he never even looked at what the motion was about. I sent him multiple items for evidence,- to the point where he actually called me and told me to stop sending him things! When we got to court- he didn't bring any of them, The judge asked for multiple items as evidence. Each item (except 1 item) was sent to, what I believe to be, an incompetent attorney,- who was not able to produce them in court because he didn't bring them. Would it suprise you to learn we lost? I found him to be lazy. For example, instead of looking up records himself,- he would call our adversary for information. This can be problematic becauses it discloses what you are focusing on to the other party. I can tell you many, many more reasons not to hire this Law Firm,- but there is not enough space here. A divorce is difficult enough,- your attorney should not be part of the difficulties! Go elsewhere. Anywhere. If ever there was a zero star award category- I nominate Mr. Gruber as it's first recipient!

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
