Verified ClientHired Attorney 2020-2021Choosing a lawyer can be difficult due to dependability and reliability, but when we chose Mr. McGinty we had a sense of relief. Off the bat he was very attentive and an open ear to the situation. He brought us through the process of what to expect and different scenarios. He was easily able to convert a child support case to a full custody case, which saved me and my family a huge amount of money. Whenever we received any information from the court he was always ready to explain all the information that can be difficult to understand. Any questions we had along the way were always answered in a timely manner, and if urgent he always attended over the phone conversations at any time of the day. I had a difficult situation with my partner which resulted in restraining orders on both sides that prevented the court from moving forward with the custody trial. Due to Mr. McGinty’s tactful and friendly nature, he was able to have the mother gladly sign to drop the restraining order and even be compliant for the rest of the custody trial. He was as well able to have the grandmother and mother come to an easy agreement on the custody agreement. The agreement was very understandable, very fair for both parties and gave all three parties exactly what they wanted. The judge had an easy time speaking to Mr. McGinty and was able to clearly understand what we were expecting and wanting out of the situation. Overall we had a happy ending with the trial and all parties are satisfied.

Verified ClientHired Attorney 2021I would highly recommend Ed Mcginty as a lawyer. I recently had a family court date in regards to seek sole legal custody of my two year old son. I was recommended to contact Mr. Mcginty as well to seek advice I had a second hearing within the next month, he took in my case kindly. He asks the right question with equal concern and has the best interest at heart for my child and for my well- being. I currently have a restraining order against the father on my son, which did concern me but all was handled well and with speed. He managed to write a detailed and comprehensive consent order that not only impressed the judge but managed to navigate around my existing final restraining order protecting me, while writing in everything I asked for as well as allows the father and our son to spend time together with a great schedule with ease. He listens to the needs of both parties as well and has great negotiation skills, I couldn’t be happier with the outcome he is always available when you need him. I was truly nervous but I was in and out of court thanks to him, truly impressive thank you again!

Verified ClientHired Attorney 2018-2021I have had Edward McGinty as my lawyer since 2018. We went thru multiple cases linked to a custody battle in Passaic County NJ and he has been no other than professional, strategist and supporting legal advisor. Edward McGinty got dismissed two restraining orders and a criminal case diluted from supreme court to municipal case to final dismissal. I owe this guy my life!

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
