Hired Law firm 2018-2024Mia Cahill is an exceptional family law/divorce attorney. I had been referred to Mia in 2018 to help with post judgement motions related to my divorce and I felt supported and well represented from day 1. She works as a consultative partner in the process and took the time to understand my needs and desires. When necessary, she asked me challenging questions and advised as to the most likely outcome of each potential approach. She has extensive experience in Mercer County which benefitted me when my case required referrals to additional local experts (e.g. mediators). She does what she can to minimize the conflict in the situation but when necessary, her experience in handling litigation was apparent. Mia also came to learn where she could advise and I could "do" when dealing with some situations and this inevitably helped me to save money in legal fees. Specifically, she and her partners (with whom she consulted on occasion on my case) supported me across various legal issues including child support, custody, spousal support, parenting time driving, holiday calendars, and medical decision making for minor children. I have confidently referred many individuals to Mia and will not hesitate to continue to do so.

Hired Law firm 2024Mia Cahill was highly recommended to us as we were looking to mediate our divorce instead of each hiring separate lawyers. We were very pleased that Mia listened to us both and helped us to navigate the process. The mediation went very smoothly and was conflict free as that was our goal. I would highly recommend Mia and her firm for any legal needs that might arise.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
