I have been looking for an attorney for 4 months to just have a consultation with. Everyone I called turned me away as I didn't have the ability to pay. I have been in a severe hardship, but they all said " I'm sorry, we charge a large fee for a consultation" " Good Luck" . I would just like to say that Howard Sobel, sat down with me for over an hour and although he really couldn't help me, as my situation was very complex, He was so caring, understanding, sympathetic, and really made me feel like there are attorneys that are not all about money. He took every thing I explained, and turned it into a positive explanation. He had empathy, and a I sat there in tears, made me feel like, it could be worse. He told me that even though I may feel like there is no end to the tunnel, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. He gave me hope that even though he could't help me, not to stop fighting. Even though I'm sure he had a long day at work, he never said , your time is up! People who are going into Bankruptcy, or thinking of filing Bankruptcy, are there due to unfortunate circumstances, or had a traumatic situation. It's a very scary situation to be in and doesn't always mean your a failure in life. I would just like to Thank Howard for taking his time to care about my situation, and giving me hope that Everything will be ok, and if I needed to retain an attorney, please don't hesitate to give him a call. I believe that if anyone who needs to consider Bankruptcy, Should consider Howard Sobel. he wasn't all about money, he had a heart. I want to thank him for all the time and compassion he took for just a client who needed someone to talk to. I'm certain you would never go wrong to hire him if you needed or consider filing Bankruptcy. Thank You again, Lisa carfi

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
