Verified ClientHired Law firm 2019I had a great experience with Jon Albanese and his staff at Coughlin & Gerhart in closing the sale of my house. Jon's paralegal Kate was very helpful with my many questions, and answered almost always immediately via email or phone. Jon was very helpful explaining legal issues that I didn't understand. Hired Attorney Caroline M. Guiles 2025-2026I worked directly with Caroline Myrdek Guiles during my home buying process, and unfortunately my experience was very disappointing. Communication was consistently slow, and responses often took far longer than expected. Throughout the transaction, I felt that matters were handled at her pace rather than with the urgency or attention a client would reasonably expect during a real estate closing. This made an already stressful process even more frustrating. When the deal ultimately did not move forward, I was especially disappointed with the lack of advocacy. When I needed assistance recovering my security deposit, I did not feel supported or represented. I was advised to pursue the matter on my own through small claims court and informed that no further help would be provided unless additional fees were paid. Overall, I did not feel prioritized, protected, or adequately represented. Based on my experience, I would not choose to work with Caroline Myrdek Guiles again and would not recommend her to others seeking legal representation for a real estate transaction.

Consulted Attorney Keith A. O'Hara 2023I had the amazing experience to serve as a juror during a recent trial where Attorneys Keith O'Hara and Robert Jones represented the Plaintiff. During the trial both attorneys conducted themselves in a highly professional and ethical manner, calling credible witnesses and entering into evidence materials that clearly supported their case. There were no theatrics as we observed by the Defense attorneys. At the conclusion of the trial the jury ruled in favor of the Plaintiff, and she was awarded compensation for her injuries that included loss of wages, retirement benefits and medical expenses. It was clear to the deliberating jury that Attorneys O'Hara and Jones had invested a tremendous amount of time preparing for the trial resulting in a successful conclusion. I recommend without hesitation both Mr. O'Hara snd Mr. Jones, and the law firm of Coughlin & Gerhart.

Coughlin & Gerhart LLP is a multi-service, progressive law firm consisting of more than 50 active lawyers and a professional staff.
We provide outstanding legal services both regionally and across the State of New York. A large number of our lawyers have been selected for inclusion in various editions of the “Super Lawyers” and “Best Lawyers" in America publications. We utilize a variety of billing methodologies that best fit the needs of our clients. Coughlin & Gerhart, LLP has its main office in Binghamton, New York. The firm also maintains law offices in Ithaca, Cortland, Owego, Bainbridge, Hancock, and Walton, NY, & Montrose, PA.
Coughlin & Gerhart LLP is one of the most established law firms in the Southern Tier of New York, dating back to the 1890s. The firm and its many partners have played an integral role in the development of the Broome County and surrounding areas. All of our lawyers are encouraged to participate and take leadership roles in the community, as well as in bar association activities. Coughlin & Gerhart has produced two Presidents of the New York State Bar Association, a Vice President of the State Bar, a chair of the New York Conference of Bar Leaders, judges and authors, as well as majority and minority leaders of the New York State Assembly. Other partners were instrumental in the establishment of the Roberson Museum and Science Center, and the Broome County Airport. The lawyers of the firm continue to be deeply involved in the Broome County community’s political, cultural, business and economic development.

In addition to our main Practice Groups, Coughlin & Gerhart offers services in the areas of Oil & Gas Law, Family Law, Criminal Law, and Immigration Law. Complex matters within each practice area are supervised by lawyers experienced in the type of matter being handled. Because of the size of the office and diversity of the attorneys in the firm, lawyers from one practice group are able to routinely assist and augment lawyers in another group. Each group meets on a periodic basis to discuss the status of assigned and new matters, as well as current developments in the law.
