Verified ClientHired Law firm 2021-2022Gregory Messer is that rare human being with a heart of gold. In my eyes, filing for bankruptcy was a last resort to avoid at all costs. I consulted with other bankruptcy attorneys over the previous year and was charged for their time. Mr. Messer told me he never charges for consultations no matter how much time people need. With utmost respect, he released me from the paralysis of shame as a first step out of an impossible situation. As a highly respected attorney, his flat rate retainer for filing bankruptcy is surprisingly lower than those of other attorneys I consulted, even though his hourly rate is higher. As he explained, "I feel confident that I can resolve your case within the terms of this retainer." And so he did. He actually went over and above, spending extra time answering questions and concerns, writing a letter to a potential landlord, and consulting with my divorce attorney. My bankruptcy case was discharged quickly and a new credit card was approved the following week! I can't thank him enough.

Hired Law firm 2020Greg was highly recommended, and he was fantastic during my consultation, Greg sat with me for over an hour explaining every step of the way to file bankruptcy. I was so nervous to file because I feel like it would ruin my future but Greg broke it down for me so I knew exactly what would happen. I was having a lot of anxiety over all my debt and Greg reassured me that everything was going to be ok. The one thing I loved about Greg as he is not pushy at all and told me to go home and think about it if I wanted to. Marion his secretary is also amazing she helps you every step of the way to make sure that you have all your paperwork in order. I would recommend Greg and his office to anyone I know if they were in the same situation as me.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
